Annual reports

Annual reports for the charity, 1905-present, which typically include a financial statement, a list of board of management members and senior staff, donation details and photographs and illustrations of the hospital. The reports were published as a single pamphlet or booklet, some of the early reports have been bound together into hardboard volumes. Reports dating from 1858-1901 were not published separately and can be found within the subscription books (archive ref: RHN/FU/2/2). The reports may also be found within the reports of the general meeting volumes (archive ref: RHN/AD/1/1).

Minutes of the House building and Estates Committee

Incomplete series of minute books of the House Building Estate Committee dating from 1865 to 1879. Manuscript meeting minutes for the weekly committee, which discussed matters chiefly relating to building and household furnishing costs for the hospital, as well as discussing household appointments, new admissions and deaths, patient requests and complaints, medical reports and other activities at the hospitals such as concerts and religious services.

Picture postcards of hospital and grounds

Black and white picture postcards showing interior and exterior shots of the hospital building and grounds, these include: images of communal areas inside the hospital including the library, De lancey lowe room, assembly room, reception hall and staff standing outside of the gate house (c. 1908). Some of the postcards have been used and are addressed to people living at the hospital.

The picture postcards were produced by several different postcard producers including Marshall, Keene & Co, Hove Sussex.

Royal Hospital and Home for Incurables Case Agenda Book

House Committee case agenda books listing applicants for admission to the hospital. Volumes contains the following information on applicants: name; age; residence; medical condition; occupation; name of member of House Committee who visited them; the committee's decision and remarks. The first volume dates from 1936-1962, with the following volume covering 1962 to 1993 and the third being 1993 to 1998.

Patient address books

Alphabetical list of patient addresses, ordered by initial admission into hospital. Includes their last known address, address of friends/relatives, date of birth and religion. Patients listed by date of admission from 1890s to 1970. Third volume includes a typescript contact list of people to contact of various religious faiths and philosophies of life.

Register of patient deaths

Register of deaths of patients from October 1938 to March 1973. Entries include name of the patient, date admitted, case book number, whether they are inmate or pensioner and date of death.

Departmental papers of the Fundraising Department

Correspondence, memorandum, reports, grant applications and promotional material relating to the Hospital's fundraising department, these include: a memorandum from 22 December 1993 regarding the need for improving hospital fundraising; applications for the role of fundraising manager, with attached curriculum vitae; grant application for the National Lotteries Charity Board, 1996; details of the fundraising campaign for the cloistered garden for the Hospital, and planning for the official opening, and letters relating to individual gifts received by the hospital.

Lantern slides of the Royal Hospital for the Incurables

Coloured magic lantern slides of the hospital and its grounds, including views of main building, out-houses and interiors. The images are a mixture of coloured illustrations depicting daily life in the hospital and early hand painted photographs.

The slides were created by "E G Woods, 1-2 Queen Street, Cheapside, London". A typescript index of the slides is included within the box.

Royal Hospital and Home for Incurables presentation film

Colour presentation films for the Royal Hospital and Home for Incurables. The narrated films provide an overview of the activities and facilities available to patients and includes soundbites from patients. The films shows a typical patient bedroom and common areas of the hospital, such as the cafeteria, Assembly Room and gardens, and some of the activities and services available to patients, including: physiotherapy, occupational therapy, art and pottery classes, furniture making, a patient using a possum typewriter (which was operated with a mouth piece), music therapy and the work undertaken by patients at 'The Factory', where patients were paid to undertaken simple manufacturing tasks for a small income. Finally, the video ends with plans for the new Chatsworth Wing at the hospital, which initially designed to house young disabled residents.
